Operations Director Laurence Hill on translating luxury brand identity into fit-out excellence

Laurence Hill, our award-winning Operations Director, has delivered flagship stores for exclusive fashion and retail brands all around the world.

In his more than 17 years creating exceptional interiors, Laurence has contributed to the transformation of numerous spaces into iconic environments for prime and luxury companies in the retail, fashion, residential and hospitality industries. The Citadines Hotel, Goldman Sachs and Timothy Oulton are just a few of the renowned customers he has helped turn their vision into a sophisticated reality.

“We selected premium materials, elevating every element of the fit-out with timeless character and quality.”

His journey started on the joinery bench crafting high-end pieces for prime and luxury brands before he transitioned to fitting them on-site. Eventually, he moved into managing the projects, developing the well-rounded expertise needed to create iconic environments. As the brands’ ambassador, he immerses himself in their identity from the outset to ensure the brand’s concept is consistently reflected throughout, building strong relationships with partners through transparent communication, and drives the project forward.

Through years of shaping prime and luxury interiors, Laurence has earned a reputation for excellence in the industry. Exclusive brands such as Tiffany & Co, Hackett London and Gieves & Hawkes have trusted his team to expand their presence around the world. Laurence collaborated with Project Manager, Michael Templar, to translate the Hackett brand overseas, delivering flagship stores in Singapore, Italy, Germany, France and the UK.

Hackett is a prime example of how fit-outs embody brand values, capturing the essence of luxury in every detail. Laurence and Michael’s mission was to ensure Hackett’s international brand consistency, navigating local laws and collaborating with specialists. Over six years, they created ambitious designs, crafted bespoke joinery and installed it to the highest standards, developing a strong relationship built on trust and consistent success. So much so that Hackett’s Chief Design Officer specifically asked to work with the same team of experts, as they elevated their international expansion.

Stores in Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, Singapore and London (Regent Street, Sloane Square, Covent Garden, One New Change) are a testament to Laurence’s approach. His team installed marble floors, high-end timber paneling on walls, bespoke corner elements and sophisticated chandeliers across all locations. They assembled stunning shop fronts featuring 6x10m timber molded details and went above and beyond to restore 200 to 300-year-old fireplaces, thoughtfully relocating them to enhance the interiors elegant atmosphere, further enriched by antique details and stunning chandeliers.

“I still remember Hackett’s store scheme in Regent Street, which required combining our deep understanding of the brand’s DNA and meticulous planning to bring to life the ambitious designs for the feature staircase and the podium for a Formula 1 car,” explains Laurence. “To complete each Hackett store to the highest standard, we selected premium materials including rich, stained sapele timber and refined brass details, elevating every element of the fit-out with timeless character and quality. These materials demand specialist procurement to ensure they’re handled, finished and installed with absolute precision.”

Our approach to sourcing, design and flawless delivery reflects a deep understanding of what it takes to bring prime and luxury spaces to life, the importance of brand identity and the nuances of luxury-specific requirements. With Laurence Hill at the helm and a team experienced in delivering prime and luxury environments across retail, hospitality and brand workspaces, DBSJ continues to set the bar for excellence.
