In June 2023, DBSJ was proudly appointed to the Specsavers Shopfitting Framework. Since then, DBSJ has been instrumental in transforming the property portfolio and enhancing the retail experience across London, the southeast, Surrey and Sussex.
As we near the 50-location milestone for one of the UK’s most well-loved brands and the renewal of our Framework Agreement for another year, Michael Templar, our project manager responsible for delivering the works, shared his insights into our collaborative working relationship.
“Our first project for Specsavers was an eight-day boost of their store in Dover in the summer of 2023” shared Michael. “Since then we’ve delivered nearly 50 projects, ranging from minor works and boost schemes, to rebrands, relocations and new stores.”
“The works vary in scope depending on the type of project” commented Michael. “A boost is a one-week refresh initiative carried out during nights to minimise store closures. The works encompass installing new illuminated glasses display units, electrical alterations, and decorative enhancements. Some of our notable projects to date include Eastbourne, Maidstone, Bexhill, Burgess Hill, Canterbury, Deal and Dover.”
“Whereas a rebrand builds upon the elements of a boost project, involving a complete overhaul of the store. Rebrand works typically include replacing all furniture and fixtures, installing new floor finishes, new rooms, lighting upgrades and additional mechanical enhancements” shared Michael. “Billericay was a great example of a rebrand project. We completed the store in March this year and the client was very happy.”

Speaking about why the relationship is so successful, Michael shared “we keep a consistent team on the account. With every project we deliver, we get to know the brand, their requirements, the individuals and the way they do business better. That intimate knowledge means we can be proactive, and guarantee speed to market and a high-quality finish. If a challenge arises, we are well placed to solve it, having delivered so many stores to date.”
With many allocations to deliver throughout the rest of 2024, spanning boosts, minor works, rebrands, maximisations and new store openings, and our Framework Renewal for another year, DBSJ’s partnership with Specsavers is flourishing.
“It is rare to experience such a transformation in less than a week. When Specsavers Luton was boosted, it was designed for maximum benefit with minimum disruption. It was an incredibly tight turnaround, but DBSJ enjoyed the challenge.”
